And below, we’re going to show you how to whip up a lower carb cheese toastie with all the goodness of the carb-filled classic.
Choosing your ingredients
As the name suggests, there are two stars of the show here: the cheese, and the toast. Picking the absolute best products will help you take your cheese toastie game to the next level. And then some.
When it comes to bread, what you’re looking for is something with a bit of texture; a bit of ‘bite’. Why? Because it’s the perfect contrast to that soft, squidgy, gooey cheese that’s packed inside. When you bite into your toastie, you get that immediate crunch, followed by that creamy, cheesy softness.

Place one slice onto a board, buttered side down, and top with your slices of cheese and any extras you’re adding in. Pop the other slice of bread on top, buttered side up, and that’s it. You’re ready to get cooking!
The easiest (and quickest) way to cook a cheese toastie is by using a toastie maker. It crisps up both sides at the same time, so you don’t have to wait long to get your teeth into your delicious snack. But if you don’t have a toastie maker, it’s no big deal. Just place your toastie into a warm frying pan and cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side. For a bit of extra crunch, use a spatula to press the toastie down in the pan every so often, allowing the butter to really get that lower carb bread all crispy.
